Suggest Dosage For Thyroxine
Question: What is ideal dosage for TSH 17, my wife requires a suggestion
Brief Answer:
Thyroxine dosage is determined by body weight and not TSH level.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr. xxxxxxx, Hi ! welcome to HCM.
TSH 17, is an indicator of hypothyroidism, and your wife needs replacement definitely. But there is no word like ideal dose. dose is started by body weight say 1-1.5 mcg /kg /day. then it is titrated up or down depending upon the follow up reports, which are done every 3 -4 months.
regards!

Brief Answer:
recheck after 6-8 weeks.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Mr. xxxxxxx, hi!, what i could get was that the dose of 150 mcg was made after seeing TSH of 17, so now nothing more to be done, wait and watch for next few weeks. once she has completed 6-8 weeks with 150 mcg, repeat TSH and FT4 and let me know.
