Suggest Dosage For Pneumonia Vaccination
Question: Hello Dr.
My babies twins are born on 1st July 2014. Current age is 6 months and 26 days.
Till now we have given all mandatory vaccines pluse one optional vaccine i.e ROTAVIRUS.
Last vaccine we had given on 18th Nov 2014.And Dr. had suggested to give Pneumonia vaccine after 6th XXXXXXX 2015.
Can you please advise how long we can extend this vaccine?
I mean to say can we give this vaccine in next or in next to next month?
please advise or should we give it now only because there may be many other vaccines with this as well.
Thanks,
Sushant.

Brief Answer:
yes give it as soon as possible
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Pneumococcal vaccine is recommended worldwide and in XXXXXXX by XXXXXXX academy of Pediatrics.
This is a three or four dose schedule.
The first two or three doses should be taken in the first year of life with a gap of minimum one month between them.
The booster is given at 12 to 15 months.
It is better to start the first dose early, even at 6 weeks of life.
The reason is that this vaccine prevents pneumococcal disease ( lung and brain infection) which is very severe in infants.
My advice :
Get the first dose ASAP.
Do not postpone
Complete the schedule.
Wishing your child good health.

Dr Arun
