Suggest Dosage Of Azithromycin
Question: I have throat infection. On earlier occasion I was prescribed Azhithral 500. I am 68 years old and my body weight is 85 kgs. What is the dose of Azhithral that I should take?

Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
For Sore throat, i advise to take an antibiotic like Azithromycin only in case you have persisting fever. Otherwise in most cases URTI is due to viral infection and it gets better with in 5 days.
You should take an anti allergic like Levocetrizine which is available as OTC drug. You should do warm saline gargles at least 3-4 times a day and do steam inhalation. You should also take Paracetamol on as or when required basis for fever and body pains.
Drink plenty of hot fluids to give your throat soothing and help in pain.
As far as your query is concerned, the dose of Azithromycin for you would be 500 mg a day. However you should take the medicine only after getting it prescribed by your doctor.
