Suggest Effective Alternative For Ornidazole

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jun 2016
Question: Hello Doctor. We spoke the other night (or day) depending. My name is XXXXXXX I had the intestinal infection and was prescribed the following drugs...

1. Combination of ofloxacin (200mg) + ornidazole (500mg) twice daily after some food. (antibiotic for intestinal infection)
2. Combination of pantoprazole (40 mg) and domperidone (20mg) twice daily on empty stomach. For acidity and vomiting.
3. Combination of levocetrizine (5mg)and montelukast (10mg) once daily. For allergic cough.

I just got back from the pharmacy and got the following items but am missing ofloxacin. The pharmacy didn't carry it and they were the better one in the neighbourhood. Could it have another name? Will I need the local Doctor to write me a prescription? Or could I ask even my neighbours downstairs in the our apartment complex to get it for me as they work at a Pharmaceutical company. With that said I got all the other medicines... Would I be able to start them? Or should I really wait, play it safe and wait till I have all my "ducks in a row" before I begin the antibiotic cycle. Just a quick update. :)

Regards, XXXXXXX

You said that you don't have ofloxacin.
But the picture of drug you sent is showing ofloxacina (left lower pack).
It is mostly ofloxacin.
Please check it again. It is mostly ofloxacin only.
Please reply me after checking it.

No I made a mistake. I'm sorry for the confusion. Let me clear it up. I assure You I'm very calm. I thought I was missing the Ofloxacin. That's NOT the case. I mixed it up with the other one, which I am missing. Which is the Ornidazole. Probably because both start with the letter O.

YES, I am missing Ornidazole.
the ofloxacin contents from what I see on the box here are...

400 mg, 8 tablet, administration via oral

1 tablet is 400 mg so the pharmacist told me to cut it in half

Yes, pharmacist is right.
You should take half tablet twice daily after some food.
Before commenting on ornidazole, I want to know few things first.
1. How are you feeling now?
2. Frequency of diarrhea decreased?
3..what about vomiting?
4. What about abdominal pain?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

So far I feel good. I feel better rehydrating with the hydration drink. I was a little lithargic today and slept twice. The vommiting stopped. I actually felt better last night after vommiting. Abdominal pain has seemed to settle down. The belly button hasn't been bleeding but it looks like it has some "barbeque sauce" in it more or less.

Brief Answer:
No need for ornidazole.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
So, in my opinion, no need for ornidazole now.
Yesterday you symptoms were more. So I advised you dual antibiotic.
Since your symptoms are improving, no need for dual antibiotic, hence no need to take ornidazole.
Continue with ofloxacin alone and other drugs.
Don't worry, you will be alright.
Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep your self hydrated.
And electrolyte drink is also good.
Hope I have solved your query.

Brief Answer:
They must be fried. Right?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Actually potato chips are mostly fried and they are not freshly prepared.
They are mostly stored in packets.
This is scenario in my part of the world.
Is it same in your part of the world?
Don't you like plain rice, fruit juices etc?

I can probably find something more fresh. Rice, chicken, a really good kitchen meal. I'll do that instead. Avoid anything fried or toasted.

Thank You Doctor. I better go now Doctor, I have to pay an additional $35 for the following questions. You answered my questions about the antibiotics.

Once again, Thank You and bless You Doctor.
