Brief Answer:
If having stomach viral symptoms, should hold off solid food

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If he has a current viral infection of his stomach then he should not be eating solid food for now.

The lining of his stomach and intestines are not ready to absorb food and it would worsen the pain and any other symptoms (nausea, vomiting or diarrhea).

He should mainly concentrate on using fluids to replace any fluids lost and using medication given.
Food is normally restarted, in very small amounts, when there is a 4 hour window with no symptoms.

When food is restarted, small quantities of dry foods (rice, bread, biscuits, cereal) can be used.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you for your response. I will also check with his medical doctor. Is homemade chicken soup and rice okay?

Brief Answer:
yes, this is fine

Detailed Answer:
HI

yes, the soup and rice , in small amounts to make sure he is up to taking it, would be fine.

Let him take a spoonful, wait a few minutes, if no pain, no vomiting, then take another and so on.
It may seen slow and painful to eat this way, but if he uses too much before he is ready, would just make things worse

Please feel free to ask anything else
