Suggest Health Diet Chart To Recover From Typhoid
Food instructions given below
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
The WIDAL test for salmonella typhi antibodies is positive.
Regarding medications I wish to know if Augmentin 625 which is an antibiotic was given by your doctor after reviewing your WIDAL test report. If yes then for how many times a day and how many days have you been told to take that medication.
Tramazac is a pain relief medication.
The main precaution you must take at present is eat healthy home cooked food with less oil and no spices. This diet may be continued for about a month to allow proper recovery. Medications also must be taken for complete course and in typhoid it is often given for 14 days. You may take adequate amounts of water and fresh fruit juices.
Please avoid non vegetarian food for 15 days. You can take milk but it should be boiled and cooled. Food and water must be clean.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
Your medications might have to be reviewed with your doctor
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
Your condition is not serious but you appear to be having typhoid infection. This requires a slightly long course of antibiotics (1 to 2 weeks) and your doctor might have to review your medications and change it to something like ciprofloxacin or similar medications which act best against the typhoid bacillus.
Therefore I request you to kindly consult your doctor if possible by telephone or meet them tomorrow morning with your report.
Augmentin also works but some medications are more preferred for treatment of infection like typhoid.
Quick recovery happens by taking medication and hygienic food. Please do not worry.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Please suggest. My Infections is severe. I read S Typhi O 1 160 is normal. Please suggest.
Please find details below
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.
Please find my observations below.
1. WIDAL test has been in use for many years for the diagnosis of typhoid fever.
2. Medical literature shows that Salmonella typhi H and O titres greater than or equal to 1:160 occurred in respectively 82% and 58% of typhoid fever patients; only 4% of healthy individuals and 8% of non-typhoid patients had Widal titres greater than or equal to 1:80.
3. Therefore if you have typhoid symptoms and S typhi O is 1:160 then there is 58 percent chance that you have typhoid and your treatment must continue to avoid serious illness. A single Widal test in an unvaccinated patient showing H and/or O titres greater than or equal to 1:160 and typhoid-like symptoms is strongly suggestive of typhoid fever.
4. For a more confirmed diagnosis I suggest you do Typhi Dot test for typhoid IgM antibodies. This is more than 95 percent sensitive with accuracy for diagnosis of typhoid.
5. Seriousness is more based on your symptoms. If you do not have continuous high fever or pain in the abdomen and vomiting or diarrhea then you can be managed with oral medications at home.
6. For typhoid, ciprofloxacin 500 mg marketed as CIFRAN 500 mg twice a day after food is recommended for 14 days. This is a prescription medication and to be taken under medical supervision. With this you also need to take medications to prevent gastritis. Tablet pantoprazole marketed as PAN 40 is available to avoid gastritis and this is to be taken on empty stomach once daily for 14 days and is available with a doctors prescription.
7. Food hygiene is important in recovery of typhoid and you are doing right by drinking glucose water. Please also drink tender coconut water and fresh juices. Eat healthy diet as discussed earlier.
8. Sometimes typhoid can show signs of improvement and symptoms can relapse after 4 weeks. Therefore taking proper treatment is required.
9. I am always ready to help you with more clarifications and information if you need.
10. Wish you a quick recovery. In emergency always consult your doctor without hesitation.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

Dr.Vivek
