Suggest Home Remedies For Constant Hiccups
Question: Hi Doc,
This is for my father. He's been having continuous hiccups for the past 3 days. We've been unable to determine what is causing this and what can be done to stop this.
Whenever he has food (lunch/dinner) the hiccups stop and then restarts after a while.
He's tried taking antacid to suppress any stomach irritations. But besides this, we cannot understand how this can be stopped.
Please suggest.

Hi
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query
I can understand your concern.
See your doctor if hiccups last more than three hours, or if they disturb your fathers eating or sleeping habits.
Home remedies to get rid of hiccups include
holding your breath, drinking a glass of water quickly, biting on a lemon, gargling with water, and using smelling salts.
Prevention
By avoiding overeating, eating too quickly, or drinking too much at a time.
Rarely, a doctor may prescribe medications such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine), haloperidol (Haldol), and metoclopramide (Reglan) for severe, persistent hiccup
Hope i have cleared your query
