Brief Answer:
30-90 mg for you

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

The effective dose of Duloxetine rages between 3-120 mg for adults and 30-90 mg for most older patients. Considering your age I think thirty mg is the right choice to start and a call can be taken after two to four weeks to increase the dose if necessary.

I must inform you that most of my patients in this age group respond well to around 60 mg of duloxetine much below the maximum recommended dose so there is possibility of good response for you at 30 mg or 60 mg in a day.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.

Do you consider Cymbalta a good antidepressant? I had excellent results from Lexapro fir 10 years and that stopped being effective! My doctor stated maybe none of the other meds would work, so I am fearful I will get no relief! Been on Cymbalta 30 mil for 4 days, so I know I need more time to see if it will kick in!

Brief Answer:
It is equally efficacious

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Cymbalta is good antidepressant for those who have pain symptoms in addition to depressive symptoms. This is also good option for resistant depression as it has two properties to tackle the depression while laxapro have only single mechanism.

I feel it is as good as other antidepressants. To be XXXXXXX when antidepressants (lexapro and cymbalta) are compared with each other there is no difference found between both of them.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards.

Cymnalta generally takes about two to six weeks to show it's usefulness.

I hope this clarifies further.

Brief Answer:
Thanks for feedback

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

The feeling of detachment and insecurity are symptoms of depression. Although it is clearly known but it is hypothesized that deficiency of core neurotransmitters is responsible for this. Among them dopamine and nor adrenaline are main neurotransmitters. In other words the neurotransmitters involved in our bonding, happiness, confidence- show decreased concentration in depression.

Combination of antidepressant can be used when necessary but it is not right time for you. Because you are having response with single medication. The other reason is increased side effects with more number of medications.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.

Thank you for answering my questions! So in regards to my last question about detachment etc. the cymbalta should help with my symptoms! Day 7 of my med and I really am hoping I will get back to myself soon! Can you give me any other good advice while I am waiting for this med to really kick in?

Also I am on Tropol for my blood pressure! Could this effect or cause depression as I have been on it for a long time?

Brief Answer:
Tropol can cause but rare possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I think Cymbalta will help you to alleviate the feelings of detachment since it is antidepressant. As per my knowledge withing two to four weeks you will see good improvement.

Regarding advice I think having regular physical exercise of 150-200 minutes per week and non sedentary life style will help you in long run. So try to keep yourself busy as far as possible.

Regarding Tropol although there is risk of depression but it is too low to be considered as significant. If you think depression was immediately followed by tropol intake this is possibility otherwise you can take it safely.

I hope this answers you further.
Thanks and regards.
