Suggest Medical Tests To Rule Out Thyroid
Question: Hello--
I have cll and am in partial remission for nine months after chemo. (now at stage 1 after being at stage 4.)
Am wondering about my thyroid--the blood tests show normal, but a naturapath said, after a little arm raising test, that i have thyroid issues and need some kind of hormone tests. Should I insist on doing some additional tests or is my regular paranoia working overtime?
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid
Detailed Answer:
I understand what you are asking here.
So when you are saying your blood tests suggest your thyroid is fine, it is very likely you are referring to a test called TSH. If not, this is the test you need to do in order to be reasonably sure your thyroid is working all right.
Now the TSH blood tests checks the function of the thyroid, but the structure of the thyroid poses a different problem. So if your thyroid is enlarged or has lumps in it, then in that case in addition to a TSH blood test, an Ultrasound examination of the thyroid is necessary.
If you have a visible 'nodule' in your thyroid area then it would be advisable to see an Endocrinologist in-person for further evaluation.

what would an endocrinologist look for?
Brief Answer:
Follow up
Detailed Answer:
He or she will examine your neck thoroughly to see if there is any thyroid swelling that is of concern and whether further testing is warranted.
When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following blood tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:
CBC
Electrolytes
Calcium
HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin = your 3 month glucose average)
Liver function tests
Kidney function tests
TSH
25 hydroxy Vitamin D
