![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: My daughter suffering from ocd she is not ready to go to doctor what to do any medicine for initial treatment
Brief Answer:
Fluoxetine (prescription drug).
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome here.
I understand your concerns for your daughter.
The best drug for OCD to start with is fluoxetine (prescription drug). It is usually started with 20mg dose and increased gradually depending on the response. The drugs usually takes atleast 4-6 weeks to show its effects. Syrup form of drug is also available.
But a doctor's prescription is necessary. I will advice against self medication. Please encourage your doctor to see a doctor.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Dr sir there are any side effects of fluoxetine and duration of course, can I go to my family physician or phychatrist please advice I am trying to convince my daughter to see the doctor thank you
Brief Answer:
duration of treatment depends on response.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Fluoxetine can commonly cause nausea, vomiting and gastric upset initially.
In some cases it can cause irritability, decreased appetite.
These are frequently seen side effects of fluoxetine.
The duration of treatment in case of OCD, depends on response to drug.
But usually, it is long term (more than 1 year atleast) as OCD tends to relapse.
Its better to consult a psychiatrist.
But if you feel your family physician has expertise in dealing with such cases and prescribing psychotropic drugs, then you can consult him.
Hope your daughter agrees to see a doctor.
I will available here for all the possible help, whenever you need it.
Thanks.

Dr sir any therapy or councelling will help her ocd
Brief Answer:
exposure and response prevention or flooding.
Detailed Answer:
Psychological therapies like exposure and response prevention and flooding can help her OCD.
But she has to agree for the treatment.
Psychological therapies can not be done forcibly.
In my experience, psychological therapies do help in OCD but can not substitute drug treatment.
Anyhow, if she is ready for these therapies, that is good.
Hope this helps.
