Brief Answer:
Maximizing the dose of metformin will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mr. XXXXXXX
Tablet Citapin XR 500mg contains Metformin 500mg.
Metformin is the first line drug in the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes.
It acts on basic pathology of Type 2 Diabetes called as insulin resistance.
Usually we recommend use of metformin in maximal tolerable dose 1500 to 2000 mg per day in divided doses.
Metformin rarely cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels) when used alone.

Along with increasing dose of metformin following things may be advisable -
1) Regular diet pattern with calories restrictions,
2) Regular exercise with aim of maintaining weight according to height.

Hope this may have clarified your query.
I will be happy to answer your future questions.
