Thank you for your answer. Besides, I have had a problem with excessive mucus for more than 20 years. Every time I walk with a handkerchief. Sometimes it becomes so heavy and when it gets down my throat, I cough alot! I have tried a number of nose drops but no help. Please what is the cause and its best treatment?
Brief Answer:
Vasomotor rhinitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
Based upon your history its clearly shown that you are having vasomptor rhinitis. Even allergic rhinitis will have same symptoms but you didnt mentioned about itchy nose and other symptoms. In you case decongestants such as pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine or antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), clemastine, or loratadine (Claritin) can be used but if your symptoms are severe then you may need cortecosteriod drops like mometasone.
Try to find the cause as mostly irritants like pollens, perfumes and even some powders will aggravate it.
You are right post nasal drip causes severe cough and to prevent it you need to swallow frequently the formed mucous its not a problem.
Permanent treatment would be surgery.
Hope this answers your query.
