Suggest Medication For Eye Irritation
Question: I went to urgent care last night. I have an eye infection...possibly pink eye too. Doctor prescribed 300mg Cefidinir taken twice daily along with Erythromycin ophthalmic ointment .5% taken 3 times daily.
I took the medication (even though the ointment is irritating my vision and makes my eye feel like I have a hair in it. It's been 12 hours and my eyelid swelling has actually gotten worse. I am hypersensitive to medications and can usually tell within a few hours whether it's working or not and I can't help but think these meds are not working. I have azithromyacin in my house and wonder if I should take that instead. I have 200mg pills.
Maybe I need an eyedrops? Not ointment?

Brief Answer:
Continue oral 300mg cefidinir
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
If you feel allergic to erythromycin ointment you better stop it. The ointment is an old formula but effectively works so a lot of physician would still prefer it. The constituents may cause such irritation and not the generic erythromycin.
In my opinion Oral cefidinir itself will work will and there is no need for topical eye preparations including ointment/drops. If you still think eye drops are better you can ask the pharmacist for the same. You need to relax a lot for the eye to be better in 24 hours. Rest it, do not watch screens including Tv, laptop or do not go out in weather.
You do not need Azithromycin pills for sure.
Hope this addresses all your concerns.
