Brief Answer:
Not all medications always work for everyone for the first time.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to HCM forum .

Thanks for your question.

Unfortunately, many psychiatric illnesses are chronic and sometimes people require multiple hospitalizations before they find a medication regimen that helps them live a more stable life.

Your nephew is taking an antidepressant, an antipsychotic possibly used as antidepressant augmentation, and an anti-anxiety medicine, which suggests diagnoses of depression and anxiety.

These medications can take several weeks to start working, and they do not always work for everyone the first time, sometimes requiring multiple medication trials to find something that works.

In other words, yes, it is normal that your nephew is facing this difficulties. Eventually with the proper care he will be more stable. But for now, continue to support him while he works on getting better.
