Suggest Medication To Help Pass Kidney Stone
Please get recent ultrasound or CT scan done and discuss with urologist
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. It is important to know the current size and number of stones which are there in your kidneys. Through an ultrasound scan you can know the size, location and number of stones. Some doctors recommend a CT scan for the kidneys and urinary bladder if all suspected stones are not visualized on ultrasound scan.
2. In your case, if we assume that the stone in left kidney has not changed in size since 2014 and measures 8 mm and there is a single stone then the probability of it passing out by itself is 20 percent with medicines. It means that 1 in 5 people with 8 mm kidney stone will pass it through natural route with the help of medicines. The medicines include tamsulosin which is an alpha blocker and a pain reliever and anti spasmotic medicine. Adequate amount of water is also to be taken to help the stone to pass through. This is to be prescribed by the urologist after clinical examination.
3. The location of the stone is important and the reason why in most cases the stone does not come out. If the stone persists after 4 weeks following treatment then lithotripsy is suggested to break the stone in to smaller fragments which then come out by itself.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
