Suggest Medication To Prepone Menstrual Bleeding
If you do not have any medical contraindications, you can take OCPs
Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
If you are a nonsmoker and do not have any medical problems, taking birth control pills can be used to regulate your cycle to even skip your period if you want to, which is not harmful in any way.
If you start taking the pills right away, your period will be predictable and you can skip your period by taking two packs of pills in a row to miss your scheduled "period" on the birth control pills.
I hope I was able to answer your question today and that my advice was helpful. If you have health problems that make it dangerous for you to take birth control, please do not hesitate to contact me and o can suggest an alternate regimen, though birth control pills will be the most effective method.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
Northisterone is not as effective, but you could try that
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Northisterone is a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone. Normally, you get your period because your own progesterone levels fall if you do not become pregnant after ovulation. So taking progesterone in the second half of your menstrual cycle to delay your period can also be effective, though you sometimes can have spotting anyway. You do not need to be on the medication before the cycle that you want to extend- so you would wait until your period that is closest to when you are to go for vacation, and then take the medication midway through that menstrual cycle and while you are away, and then stop the medication as soon as you get back and your period will begin a few days later. There are many kinds of synthetic progesterone; Northisterone is only one type and there are others that can be effective as well.
There is no way to make your period come early, before your vacation, unless you take birth control pills, as progesterone can only delay your cycle rather than making it come sooner than expected. I know your doctor prefers that you do not use birth control for this purpose, but as long as you are not a smoker, have active heart or liver disease, any history of stroke or blood clots or any history of breast or gynecologic cancer, there is no real medical contraindication to using them, especially because it is just temporary to regulate your cycle around your vacation.
I would discuss these possibilities with your local physician
3 weeks before due date and stop a week out. That would reset it a week. Would I then have a 28 day cycle after that? I honestly have never taken anything stronger than an Advil so I don't like this but again if I can't get my Dr to agree to give me a prescription for BC. I have spent thousands on this vacation with my family.
Progesterone will not change the date you ovulate- so this may not work
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
All that progesterone does is stabilize your uterine lining to keep you from bleeding in the second part of your cycle after ovulation. It does not affect the development of your egg starting your next menstrual cycle,so it doesn't really "reset" your cycle. There is no way to know when you will ovulate the next month... so giving yourself a "period" later with the cycle before your trip does not necessarily mean you will get another period exactly 28 days after that. Your best bet is to wait until the cycle that would be due during your vacation and take the progesterone beginning about 7-10 days after the start of that cycle, and take it during your vacation and stop afterwards.
I know it's not ideal to have your period during a vacation, but it is not possible to reliably manipulate your cycle. Even OCP's do not guarantee perfect cycle control in the first three months of use.
So I hope this information was helpful and that you can work with your local doctor to come up with a treatment plan that you can agree upon.
I hope no matter how it works out that you are able to enjoy your vacation.
Let me know if i can be of any further help.
Regards,
Dr. Brown
