It would be a good idea to know what is causing the sinus drainage. If it is from a temporary cold, then waiting it out, and drinking hot soups and teas can make you more comfortable.

If it is from an allergy (ragweed pollen counts are very high right now!) then an oral antihistamine and a steroid nasal spray can help. If you have had problems with a steroid spray such as Flonase dripping down your throat, there are steroid sprays that are dry, such as Qnasl, that won't drip down your throat. It is by prescription - not sold over the counter. A steroid nasal spray can help stabilize the mucus membranes so they drip less. If you think this might be an allergy, consider limiting time outside, don't dry clothes outside on the line, sleep with windows closed, and consider changing your outdoor clothes to something fresh warn indoors only, when you come inside. If you have a pet, keep it out of your bedroom at night to decrease having 8 hours of exposure to dander. There are also antihistamine nasal sprays, such as Aztalin, which can help.

If the problem has been going on for more than a couple of weeks, you have a low grade fever, and the discharge is discolored throughout the day (not just when you get up), this could be a bacterial sinus infection and an antibiotic may help.

Guaifenesin is safe for enlarged prostate. It is a mucolytic (thins mucus so that it passes more easily, perhaps without you noticing it's presence). That's something you can try. Drink a lot of water for it to work well.

Washing your sinuses with saline, either with a nettipot, or with prepared saline sprays such as Simply Saline, can help for any of these things, but do expect some drainage for awhile after the saline rinse, because there will temporarily be more fluid in your sinuses.
