Question: What are the best oral medications available to treat severe nerve damage to the ociptial nerve.......other than Neurortin, and Lyrica?

Several class of medicines can be used for occipital neuralgia-
1)NSAIDS
2)Anticonvulsants-Neurontin,Tegretol(carbamazepine)
3)Antidepressants-Amitriptyline
4)Opioids
5)Steroid injections may be used in patients not responding to oral medicines

In some cases not responding to medical management-
1)Surgical Microvascular decompression
2)Occipital nerve stimulation.
