Brief Answer:
D-dimer can be raised due to underlying inflammatory conditions

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Raised D-dimer is seen in thrombo-embolic disorders.
Raised levels can also be seen in inflammation.
Fibromyalgia and costochondritis are both inflammatory conditions and can lead to raised d-dimer.
However, other inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein (CRP), ferritin and ESR will also be raised.
So, I suggest you to get these levels checked.
In addition, a further test - FDP can be also be done to rule out thrombo-embolic phenomenon.
A normal FDP will rule out thrombo-embolic phenomenon and in that case these inflammatory conditions will be responsible for high D-dimer.
If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.

Brief Answer:
I suggest you to folow your doctors advise to avoid deep vein thrombosis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome again,
Since the D-dimer levels are elevated and an underlying thromboembolic phenomenon is suspected, thus your physician has advised you to keep the legs elevated.
Moving the legs and avoiding immobility avoids formation of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Thus, I advise you to follow instructions of your physician.

Thanks and take care
