Suggest Medicines For Bipolar II Disorder Without Any Side Effects

Question: Yes, I was worn born 3 months premature. I was always weird as growing very emotional and irritable. I was diagnose with major depression and later bipolar II at 33 years old. I was medicated for 6 years. I stopped psiquiatry medicine because I gained a lot of weight and developed other problems x obesity. I am now slender but I have lot of mood changes and menopausic. Additional I have hypothyroidism. I am taking Xanax half of a pill twice a day. I feel ok. There is another way to treat my bipolarity symptoms. I hate to take medicine that brings me more side effects and other health problems.
Please advice

You have mentioned that you have been diagnosed to have Bipolar II disorder and that you have been tried on psychiatric medication in the past but have experienced troublesome side effects such as weight gain.
Now, unfortunately, the only way to treat Bipolar disorder is with mood stabilizer medication. But, like you mentioned many of the commonly used mood stabilizer medication like Lithium, Valproate, etc. can cause weight gain.
However, nowadays, there are newer and effective mood stabilizers like Lamotrigine and Levitracetam which do not cause weight gain. So, I would advise you to ask your doctor about these newer medication.
