Suggest Natural Remedies To Promote Regular Bowel Movements In A Child
Question: My daughter will be 5 in July when she was an infant her normal bowel pattern was loose stools 3-4 a day after taking most foods out of her diet and slowly reintroducing I figured out that fruit juice flared this while still not formed they decreased she potty trained at 2 with no issues then this last year she began having BM accidents frequently at first then constantly I tried reintroducing fruit juice that did nothing most of the time the accidents didn't appear to be a full BM several squirts daily so I tried a childrens laxative my plan to clean her out and get her on a schedule however no result at all so I increased to 2 per package direction and she had a large bm in toilet a couple days later the problem is back so now I'm giving her 2 laxatives everyother day and other then 2 accidents we have been good for 3 weeks but I'm not sure this is a good way to regulate a 5 year old this was the pcp suggestion are there any natural things I can try so she doesn't get dependant on laxatives
Brief Answer:
Bowel pattern
Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
I agree that we don't want her to become dependent on laxatives. The idea is to " attack from above" rather than from below.
In general, we want a good amount of fiber in the diet. But in more severe case, like here, it is best to try fiber supplements. There are plenty of them that can be purchased over-the-counter. Many come in powdered form and are tasteless. So they can be mixed with anything and she'll never even know.
i recommend starting a fiber supplement as directed on the label and see how she responds over the next 1-2 weeks. Then, hopefully, we can stop using the laxatives.
