Suggest Pain Relief Medication When On Clindamycin For An Infected Tooth?
Question: I am currently taking clindamycin for an infected tooth which ultimately needs a root canal. I have taken the prescribed dosage of 300mg 4 times a day for 2 days now. I am going on a cruise on Sunday and want to enjoy myself and not have this pain. Will this pain subside from the antibiotic or is there anything else I can do? Unfortunately my tooth didn't realize it's a holiday week.
Brief Answer:
Take analgesic for pain relief
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Antibiotic helps in subsiding infection but doesn't help in pain relief. You need to take analgesics like diclofenac & paracetamol combination thrice a day for pain relief.
Also apply clove oil to affected tooth.
Do not take antibiotic for more than 5 days.
Maintain proper oral hygiene.
Get it treated as early as possible.
Hope I answered your query
Wishing you good health

My doctor prescribed 14 days of antibiotics. Would it be better to go to a 24 Hr. Emergency Dentist here in the area to have this fixed since my dentist can't get me in until mid XXXXXXX ? I am going on a cruise Sunday and want to enjoy myself, not live on medicine and have this throbbing pain.
Brief Answer:
Yes visit dentist on an emergency basis.
Detailed Answer:
As per your history your teeth might be grossly decayed & require Root Canal Treatment. You need to get an x-ray done of associated tooth & if required get started with root canal treatment. You will get relief after first sitting.
Medicines will give temporary relief & prolonged use of antibiotic has side-effects.
