Posted on Mon, 27 Jun 2016
Question: Hi. I was diagnosed with IBS-C over 20 years ago. I have been managing it but just recently I get this nervous feeling in my stomach and I have to defecate. I have to manually do this because I've been doing it for years now. I have had many tests but not for this exact problem. What is happening to me?

lifestyle alteration and oral laxative

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
I am sorry to hear that you are going through this.
Few non pharmacological and Pharmacological measure will be helpful.
1. Drink plenty of water 2 to 3 liters per day.
2. Add more fibers to your diet. Eat more vegetables, restrict the intake of meat. Avoid spicy food, alcohol, carbonated drinks.
3. Regular exercise, brisk walk for 30 to 40 minutes in the morning.
4. You have to take oral laxative in the night ( like Cremaffin(Liquid Paraffin, Milk of Magnesia), but I would also suggest you not to take it for long time.
Your symptoms should be addressed by this measures.
Hope this helps.
Take care

I forgot to add that this has been happening at 12am midnight which interferes with my sleep. I have recently had a tooth fall out and had to be on a soft diet. I really don't know what to eat because my teeth seem to get in the way of chewing properly. I don't have an appointment with the dentist until July. What can I eat, I am hungry all the time, but eating only mashed potatos and mashed macaroni.

I also wanted to ask if I could start taking Metamucil as a fiber supplement. I have taken it before religiously, but stopped for a long time. I was a big help, but now that I am not eating properly, I'm afraid it won't work. Also may I take just the Milk Of Magnesia insted of the Cremaffin? Sometimes it doesn't work. Thank you

Brief Answer:
sleep a little late for few days. follow instructions posted in earlier post

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Welcome.
Follow the instructions suggested in earlier post and along with this I would suggest you to sleep little late around 10 PM or so for few days.
Try eating natural foods rather than supplements, it will be more beneficial. You can take other oral laxatives as well, cremaffin contains milk of magnesia and paraffin.
Hope this helps.
Take care

thank you for your help but it is almost impossible for me to sleep late because my bowels wake me up in the morning wit a nervous, panicked feeling usually at 7am. I'm so scared that my bowel habits will remain this way and not go back to normal.
