Suggest Remedies For An Infected Right Finger

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2016
Question: I have an infected right ring finger from the second knuckle forward.it began last Thursday and worsened by sat and now I am out of town and not near my regular care providers. After going to an immediate care facility they put me on sulfamethoxazole-TMP starting last Sunday. No change as of yesterday so I went back. The lanced it but there was no puss, just infected soft tissue. Then I received a painful shot in the hip(not sure what it was). Doc said it should be 50% better by today but it remains the same. Any ideas?
Thanks. XXXX. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Could be anti inflammatory injection. Your wound needs regular dressing

Detailed Answer:
No there.

This could be cellulitis of the finger out skin and deep soft tissue infection.

Keep the limb elevated. Keep the area clean and dry. You could also apply Fucidin ointment which will help.

The injection in the hip could be anti inflammatory like Diclofenac which will relieve pain and inflammation. The symptoms should get relieved in 3 to 4 days after starting antibiotic. Get regular dressing done as well.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

there is not much of a wound just a small sub by the Doc. My question is isn't the antibiotic having any effect. He said 24 hrs for a 50% relief but it is not happening. I am concerned about the lack of ability to reduce the inflammation. The pill antibiotic was started sundaay morning

Brief Answer:
Needs antibiotic culture and sensitivity testing

Detailed Answer:
May need to change the antibiotic. Get the wound swabbed and tested for culture and sensitivity. That way the sensitive antibiotics can be found against the infection.
