Brief Answer: Rule out urinary infection and constipaion as caus Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Namasthe Dear Mr XXXXX Being a Parent myself , I do understand your concern and difficulty about having your child bed wetting even at age of 10years. I would like to reassure you that things can be taken care off. It requires lot of patience on the part of parents and ruling out other possible causes. Majority of the times bed wetting is habitual. Even then its important to consider and rule out other possibilities. Following possbility needs to be considered 1. Urinary Tract Infection: Does the child have burning sensation during passing urine or increased frequency of passing urine? Getting Urine routine and microscopic examination will rule out the possbility. 2. Constipation: Children either passing hard stools or passing stools less often do sometimes have bed wetting. 3. Infection of Penis like Balanoposthitis I would suggest you the following which will definitely help as has helped many of my patients 1. Be patient and speak to your child, tel him and explain him the benefits of not wetting the bed. Don't be harsh or rigid in the approach. Remember children are gentle and its always advisable not to affect their tender mind of child. 2. Reward system: Reward him the next day when he does not wet the bed 3. Don't attempt to wake him up when he wets bed, instead speak to him the next day. 4. Double Voiding/Urination: Before going to bed make him urinate twice, let him urinate and make him urinate again after 5 minutes. This will ensure the urinary bladder is completely empty and prevent overflow due to over filling of bladder. 5. Avoid excessive water consumption during evening hours. Let him consume sufficient water during rest of day. 2 glass of water, one hour before and one hour after meals will ensure sufficient intake of water. 6. Avoid tea and coffee. 7. Cultivation of habit of regular urination: Urinating every 2 hours during day time will be very helpful( children do sometimes postpone urination during day especially in school , which may be the cause of night time wetting). I hope this helped. Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take Care Best Regards Dr Deepak Kishore MBBS,MS,MCH Consultant Pediatric Surgeon
