Suggest Remedies For Bruise On The Upper Thigh
Question: I have a very large spreading bruise on the side of hip and upper thigh. It is possible it is a bug or spider bite since there was no trauma to cause it, I just woke up with it. It's been over 24 hours and while the bruise has spread considerable, the swelling has not changed much. I am concerned on whether or not it needs further attention than basic antihistamines and aspirin?

According to your complaints it could be insect bite but I would recommend you to upload the pictures of the affected areas under the report section of the site so that I can have a clearer picture of the condition and can guide you accordingly.

Hi Dr. Asmeet,
I just uploaded two pictures from last night in the reports section. The bruise has not changed much since then, maybe grown just a little..
Thank you,
Beccah

Brief Answer:
Answer few questions
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs and it looks like a big bruise.
It doesn't seem to be caused by any insect bite.
Do you have any itching, pain and burning on the bruise?
Are you on any blood thinners?
Do you have any other ailments or taking any medicines?
Is this the first episode of bruising?
Kindly revert with the answers.
Regards

I uploaded another photo from just a few minutes ago, it's about a 20 hour difference, it appears to still be spreading but it's not as dark as it was..
To answer your questions:
No burning or itching, just pain and a bit of swelling.
No blood thinners.
I have a few mediciations I take for asthma, eczema and allergies: FLovent, Fluticasone, zyrtec, ventolin as needed, and steriod ointments as needed.
This is the first episode of bruising of scale, and this quickly with no apparent cause. I have bruised easily upon contact before, but never like this. I participate in a lot of athletics and I do bruise easier than a lot of people.
Thank you,
Beccah

Brief Answer:
Continue antihistaminics and don't take aspirin, keep under observation
Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the newly attached photograph as well and it seems to be spreading.
You can take antihistaminics for it but don't take aspirin as it can worsen it.
Keep it under observation and if its increases further or shows any other symptoms consult a doctor and rule out any bleeding disorder.
