Suggest Remedies For Chronic Constipation In An Infant
Question: Mu daugher ages 2 years 11months. Her weight is 11.6 Kg. She is suffering from chronic conatipation. We give her balanced diet but still it is not working. Green vegetables,fruits,Rice,Roti ,corn and other foods with lots of fibre are given to her daily. Still she delivers stools 2-3 day a week. Please give a guideline.

Although constipation is a very common problem in pediatric age group,few possibilities should be ruled out particularly if there is associated poor weight gain.
The average weight of a 2 year 11 months old child should be more than 12 kgs.
As you have already tried conservative management I would like to get her evaluated for causes of chronic constipation like hypothyroidism,any intestinal cause of constipation (like hirschsprung dieease),hypocalcemia etc.
Poor toilet training can also cause constipation.
If pediatrician clears her and there is no underlying cause,proper toilet training with use of laxative like lactulose or polyethylene glycol will help.
