The hiccups are spasmodic contractions of the diaphragm. Some common causes are dyspepsia, kidney failure, some neurological diseases, pathology near the diaphragm, phrenic nerve irritation in the neck and thorax.

How often in a day the hiccups occur?
Are any of the above causes considered earlier?
Are you having any digestive problem like acidity, GERD?
Is there any swelling on the legs or a known kidney problem?
