Brief Answer:
We should first need to diagnose the cause of dry cough in her case.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your mother is having chronic dry cough since 30 years. This is very long duration.. We should not start any drug without proper diagnosis in such case. So better to first diagnose the cause for her chronic dry cough and then start appropriate treatment.
Uncontrolled GERD can also cause similar cough.
Chronic bronchitis, lung infection like tuberculosis, asthma, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectesis etc are common causes for such chronic cough.
So better to first rule out these causes and then start appropriate treatment because each of them need different treatment.
Has she ruled out these diseases?
I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Optimal GERD control is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Healthcare Magic.
Since all the possible causes for chronic dry cough has been ruled out, optimal control of GERD is needed to relieve cough.
So ask your mother told follow these steps for better symptomatic relief in GERD.
1. Avoid hot and spicy food.
2. Avoid junk food.
3. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals.
4. Take combination of pantoprazole and levosulperide twice daily on empty stomach.
5. Quit smoking and Alcohol if she is having these habits.
6. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in the bed to prevent reflux.
7. Go for walking after meals.
8. Avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm.
Don't worry, she will be alright in GERD with all these. Once her GERD is controlled, her cough will also be relieved.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.
