Suggest Remedies For Elevated PSA Levels

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: I am 63. I had a radical prostatectomy 2006, 10 years ago. XXXXXXX 7. No symptoms after that. PSA has risen. Oct 14 it was 0.17, April 2015 it was 0.43. I got radiation therapy 33 times ended 27 July 2015. At 19 November 2015 PSA was 0.14, but in 9 February 2016 it was 1.14. I am visiting my doctor now, but I would like to know, should I accept LHRH, or wait some time. Is it possible that PSA will start to lower again within some time? At what time? How serious my cancer is? What do you recommend?

Brief Answer:
Your PSA values are within norrml range

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have undergone Radical Prostatectomy 10 years back followed by radiotherapy.

Though your recent PSA values are showing rising trend it is still well controlled and within normal range

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you any obstructive voiding symptoms ?

LHRH are usually advised in cases who are resistant to hormone therapy or sthere is definite evidence to suggest recurrence of cancer as indicated by high level PSA values .

There are different views and difference of opinion amongst Urologist as regards treatment of cancer of the prostate

I personally do not think that you need any drastic step and start with LHRH or Hormonal treatment reason being your near normal PSA value and absence of any other symptoms .

What you need id to have frequent check up (PSA test) at the interval of 6 months and take a call if required .

If you were my patient I would observe and monitor you before taking any decision as regards LHRH .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
