Thanks for response. Below is the History that led to this:
I was having a lot of bloating and Gas, and continuous pain in lower abdomen left side. I visited a Gastroenterologist when they conducted full abdomen & kidney sonography and urine test. All test results came normal and Dr advised the below medications for 1 month:
Nexpro: Before breakfast
Normaxim: 3 times
VSL: after lunch/dinner.
After 1.5 weeks of this(5 days back from now), I noticed discharge from my breasts, although I am nor Pregnant. So I visited a gynecologist. Dr. conducted Prolactin test which came back as 450ng which is very high. After this Dr has asked me go for an MRI both normal and contrast for brain with indication that I may have tumor. The results are still awaited.
I need your help to understand what should I be doing, do you think their could be any possible reasons this might be happening to me.
few things to consider..
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome back,
Thanks for following up with these details,
To begin with, let me assure you that your on the right direction only..
The initial symptoms of acid peptic disease warranted those investigations as well as necessary treatments..
Followed by the nipple discharge, which again prompted you to go for the Gynecologist's consultation and Prolactin work-up is regularly done as screening in a non-pregnant woman presenting with all those acute symptoms..
Yes it's quite high, so it's the dictum of medicine to rule out the more concerning and common causes first, so your gynecologist's approach is appropriate to go for the MRI-brain, which will clearly give an inside picture if there are any pituitary adenomas (I can understand that it sounds dangerous to have tumors inside brain, but please note that - not all tumors are life threatening, similarly not all tumors are cancers, it's one of those relatively harmless one, which, if detected can be managed primarily with the medicines only)..
There are certain other steps of management next, like a complete Hormonal profile (including Thyroid profile, growth hormone assay, testosterone level-yes it's done in female individuals too)..and serial follow-ups from time to time..
There're certainly other causes, like I've already mentioned in my previous reply, starting from stress to several metabolic changes(even irregular menstruation can cause too), any abnormalities in those hormonal profiles, some drug induced and several others, so in order to achieve a proper diagnosis, it's extremely important to rule out them starting from the most severe one to less severe sequentially (which is exactly what your gynecologist has started doing..), so please don't worry..
After the MRI, let me know the findings, and also discuss those other factors as I've already mentioned, with your Gynecologist for further evaluation..
You'll be needing clinical examination and opinion of an Endocrinologist too at the same time, so please plan that accordingly too..
Let me know how you stay in the due course..I'm sharing my direct follow-up link for your convenience through which you can contact me anytime anywhere, I'll be glad to guide you accordingly..
For future reference you can always get in touch with me, below is my Direct follow-up link through which you can contact me directly anytime anywhere, I'll be happy to help -
