Question:
Hello doctor , my baby boy is 2.5 yrs old . He is having fever ranging from 100 -101 F from 12 September night . Though the fever subsides with in 2 hrs of giving P250 syrup (5 ml, as advised by his pead) it again occurs in 6-7 hrs .The fever is accompanied with running nose and cough . His Pead has advised to give livolin syrup for his cough . After giving which his cough has increased with occasional vomit.
My doubt is, it is 5 days since his fever started and is still the fever has not gone .
It is time to start antibiotics ?

Brief Answer:
Do not start antibiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hi... by what you say I feel that this could be a viral illness.
Please do not start antibiotics.
I will tell you how a viral illness behaves so that you will be more confident.
Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
