Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am happy to answer your queries. I have read your question with care and understand that you have severe pain due to fibromyalgia and have developed swelling of joints for the first time and also have numbness of the arms.

Fibromyalgia may be associated with other causes of arthritis or there can be a transient immune mediated reactions which have caused your symptoms. But in your case, you have narrated that the numbness of hands and forearms won't go away. This necessitates evaluation.

The possibilities at this stage are
1. All These symptoms are due to Fibromyalgia
2. Swollen Joints and Numbness are due to some other inflammatory disorder

To proceed further, you have to visit your Doctor. The Doctor May Order for X Ray (and if needed CT, MRI) of the joints and also a test called Nerve Conduction Study which will find whether the numbness is due to problem in peripheral nerves or not. You may also need to do your Blood Biochemistry Tests again.

Whether the joint swelling is due to fibromyalgia itself or whether it is due to some other problem the treatment is likely to be the same
You may have to take
(1) NSAID : Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs
(2) Steroids
(3) Ranitidine
(4) Omeprazole
(5) Antacids

For 10 days to 14 weeks to tide over the acute symptoms.
Your Problems should be resolved by two weeks

If you have any other co existing diseases like Thyroid Dysfunction or Diabetes, you may have to take the relevant treatments also

Hope you found the answer helpful.

If you need any clarification / have doubts / have additional questions / have follow up questions, then please do not hesitate in asking again. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Best Wishes for Speedy Recovery
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
