Suggest Remedies For Fungal Infection On The Back
to confirm diagnosis and proceed as advised below
Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX welcome to HCM
I'm Dr Dinah and i'll be answering your queries today.
But firstly, have you been medically diagnosed with ringworm infection, as there maybe other similar looking conditions as well?
How long have you had the infection and what is the exact location? is it spreading in size or are you getting new rashes anywhere?
Have you applied anything on it?
Is it the first time you are having this infection or has it happened previously?
Also do let me know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding at present.
Any history of drug allergies?
Can you post a pic of infected area?
You will need to apply antifungal cream as well as take anti fungal tablets depending on the extent of the infection.
Antihistamines or allergy tablets will be required for the itching.
Also keep a check if any family members or contacts have a similar infection, as it can spread. Do not share toiletries, towels, clothes etc.
Use an anti fungal soap like Candid, and keep it separately. If the infection is in a sweaty area, during the day apply a fungal dusting powder. Always keep dry and wear loose cotton clothing.
If possible, you may upload an image of the infection. A test of the skin can be done to confirm the diagnosis if required.
Do get back to me with the clarifications requested, and I will guide you regarding the best way to proceed.
Also, feel free to contact me with any other doubts you have.
Take care.
early ring worm infection. continue treatment as advised.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for getting back to me. I saw the image you sent in. Looks like a very early and limited infection of ringworm.
You can follow the tips and treatment advice as i mentioned.
Use a terbinafine cream twice a day for at least 3 weeks. Do not stop the cream in between even if the rash appears to have healed, as the infection will still be present in skin and can recur again. After infection clears you may be left with a dark mark in the area which will slowly fade off.
Take a course of terbinafine tablets once a day for a week. This is a prescription medicine.
Continue the powder and use an antifungal soap as well.
Wear cotton undergarments and wash clothes in hot water and dry well.
Consult a dermatologist after this, to check on the progress of the infection and whether you need to continue the treatment further.
Any family members with similar complaints will also have to be treated at the same time.
This should help you. Just be regular with treatment and complete the course.
Contact me regarding any doubts you may have.
Take care and have a nice day.
