Brief Answer:
Surgery is the only way to fix an inguinal hernia

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Surgery is the only way to fix an inguinal hernia.
If it doesn't bother you, or you have no pain, you can postpone the surgery for years, but the risk that a complication may start, that may need urgent surgery will be always there.

So my recommendation is that, if the hernia is small, no symptoms, and you have easy access to healthcare, then you can postpone the surgery. Always keeping in mind to not lift heavy weights. Constipation or coughing can make it worse also.

In the case that any of these aggravating factors is present in your life, consider planning surgery.

Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Kind regards,
Dr. Klarida Papaqako,
