Suggest Remedies For Intermittent Electric Shock Like Sensation In The Right Leg
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: It feels like a series of electric shocks are going through my right leg intermittently from time to time in no definite pattern. They are short and seem to start around the ankle and zap up to the knee area. They have not gone above the knee. The area is on the inside to almost the front of the calf. I have had them two days ago then one day with none and this evening have started again. I have plantar fachitis in both feet and have also had a knee replacement in the right knee in 2007.
Brief Answer:
Pressure on nerve roots at spine
Detailed Answer:
Hi , I am Dr Gopal Goel Orthopedic Surgeon.
You have described electric shock like sensation in your right leg off and on from ankle to knee , inside and front of calf. you also had a knee replacement in 2007 and are have plantar fascitis both feet.
This pain is probably pressure in one of the nerves from spine ( nerve root L3,L4) and mild irritation of this nerve causes this electric shock like sensation.
I suggest pain killers, muscle relaxants, and pregabalin for about 10 days and if there is no improvement then go for MRI Lumbar spine and S Vit B12( Blood Test).
Knee replacement of plantar fascitis have no direct role in these symptoms.
Thanks for the question.
