Question: My 78 year old mother has had painful pressure in or in back of her eyes. Her blood pressure tonight was high, 166 over 102. She recently had cataract surgery that went well. Any ideas? Thank you...

Brief Answer:
Monitor bp & see your opthalmologist

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Painful pressure in & behind the eye could be because of increased intraocular pressure (pressure of fluid in eye) which can rise after every eye intervention. So it is important to see your ophthalmologist again especially when she is already taking warfarin.
A single reading of high bp does not rule out hypertension. A bp of >150/90mm Hg is abnormal for her, but it has to high for at least 3 different occasions. So you need to monitor her bp & if it is consistently high than medicine will be required.
In the meanwhile, decrease the salt intake & check her PT/INR.
I wish a quick & healthy recovery for her
Thanks
Take care
