Suggest Remedies For Itching On The Hands And Scalp
Question: I am having itching of the hands and scalp and my urine was also dark tonight. I had the itching issue even worse during a recent trip and finally attributed it to the well water. When I quit using it the symptoms went away. Now I am back home and the symptoms have returned after a week of no issues. The urine issue appeared a few weeks ago after I used some chromium picolinate supplement and disappeared when I stopped. Tonight the urine was dark again but no supplement was taken. I just had a physical less than a month ago before the itching scenario. Is it possible that dehydration may play a role? Also, both itching episodes were preceded by me doing some pressure washing but using different water sources.
Brief Answer:
Another urine home testing recommended
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.
1. When you say dark urine, I believe it's not blackened. Dehydration might cause it and possibly UTI.
I advise to take an urine home testing to see pH, density and presence of leucocytes for infection.
2. With regards to itching hands and head, do you notice any visible rash?
Can you send a photo of the rash to me?
What meds have you used so far: locally and orally?
Allergy is to consider together with fungal infection of the skin.
Looking forward to have the requested information and photo in.

There is no rash. As I was posting my question last night I drank a bottle of water. The itching soon subsided and my urine was clear. When the itching occurs the only visible skin irritation is where I scratch. As I stated earlier, the incident in XXXXXXX seemed to end when I quit bathing or using the well water. It had no effect on my wife or our guests who were visiting. Can dehydration also cause a possible itching of the hands and scalp? As far as meds or topical treatments: Last night I did not treat anything besides washing my hands with anti bacterial soap and drinking a bottle of water. In XXXXXXX when the symptoms appeared I was in awful discomfort and tried a triamcinolone ointment I had been prescribed by my dermatologist some months earlier for a similar incident from an earlier trip to XXXXXXX which is why I suspect the well water. It did not offer much relief. I also tried some aloe lotion which also had a limited effect.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Thank you for providing the requested information.
1. UTI means urinary tract infection. It is often associated with concentrated urine.
2. Dehydration causes dry skin. Dry skin itself can cause horrible itchiness.
Apart drinking plenty of water, I advise to apply moisturizing cream on your skin and see the difference.
Next, at your age, I'm concerned about:
- UTI
- kidney problems
- diabetes
- liver disease
All of them can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. That's why I suggested to run urine analysis at home, at least you can see the first changes before talking to your doctor.
Once again, although youhad the last tests one month ago, many things might have changed during this month, so we should determine what? and how to best treat it.
Hope this helps.
