Suggest Remedies For Loose Watery Stool In An Infant
Please see pediatrician to assess for dehydration right away
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
- does he/she have a fever?
-any change in diet?
- is he/she going through teething?
- how is your child 's urine? Quantity and colour?
- is there blood or mucus in the stools?
- is he/she feeding well? Are you breast feeding?
- what is your child's weight?
-do you use diaper?
-how many loose stools in a day? Does he/she cry while passing stools?
- any vomiting?
- has she/he started crawling? Turning over?
I recommend :
# a pediatrician consult right away.
# proper Hydration /feeds. Continue breastfeeding.
# use B4 nappi diaper rash cream. Use after every loose stool and change of diaper/napkin.
# avoid wipes and wash with warm water. Use cotton or clothe dipped in warm water.
Or run tap to adjust to warm water and hold baby on one arm and wash gently under running water.
# leave the buttocks open as much as possible.
# apply diaper rash cream over anal area and over entire rashes with clean fingers.
# a zinc supplement (as drops) :A-Z and probiotics (enterogemina liquid). Please talk to your child's pediatrician before administering any medications. Dosage is to be decided by them.
# electrolyte supplements if necessary (to be decided after clinical examination)
# make sure she/he is fed frequently and hydrated well. Urine should be light coloured and passed at least 6 times a day
Please get back to me with the requested clarifications and consider my recommendations.
Hope this helps.
If the baby:
*is not feeding well
*looks drowsy or sleeps a lot
*has loose stool for more than 5 days
*has reduced amount of urine
*has a sunken soft spot on the head
*has no tears while crying
Go to the emergency right away to treat the electrolyte imbalance and dehydration. This can be dangerous.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Hope he/she recovers soon.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
