Suggest Remedies For Low Blood Count
Question: My blood count has gone from my regular 130 to 110 apparently caused by ulcers. I was blacking out so I wasn't allowed to drive & had to stop taking Toradol IM for endometriosis pain. It's been 4 weeks & i went today for a new blood test. I don't know the number of my count but my dr said I'm still not allowed to drive. I don't understand why I wouldn't be able to drive if I'm no longer blacking out for almost 2 weeks. Does my dr have to legal right from letting me drive if I'm not blacking out? The whole reason I wasn't allowed to drive was because I was blacking out so what legal reason could she have?
Brief Answer:
Needs 10-12 weeks to recover.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Your blood counts are still on lower side and can again decrease in case the ulcers bleed. It takes at least 10-12 weeks for the blood counts to be normal and the symptoms to disappear. Blacking out itself is a reason enough to prohibit driving as you will be prone to accidents.
Do wait and have a healthy diet till you feel normal. Avoiding driving is for your good only.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Ok so I absolutely understand that my levels may not be back up but it had been clearly stated I could drive again once my blackouts had passed for at least a week it has almost been 2 weeks since a single blackout. I fully understand that my levels are not where they need to be but if my symptoms have subsided don't I have the right to get an all clear? I have dealt with a lot of health issues in my life and I always follow my doctors os as I truly trust & respect her. If I'm told "you can drive again once you're blackouts have stopped for at least a week you can drive again." I waited just under 2 weeks of what was asked of me just incase. I never would want to put myself or anyone else in danger because I was at risk. I have no dizziness or any other symptoms except for the low blood count. So isn't it ethnically fair and just to do what was told to me? Also can you tell me what the rules and regulations of getting a blood transfusion? Is that not something that can help tremendously? Is there anything else that can move all of this along quicker? I appreciate any and all suggestions/ideas you have for me. Thank you greatly for your time. I really hope you can give me a better direction of where to go from here. I wish you all the very best and happy holidays.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Brief Answer:
Do start with iron supplements.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If you were told that you can drive if you do not have black outs for a week then I think it is too early to decide that you are symptomatically better. It is a doctor's discretion after a physical examination that can declare you fit to drive.
Blood transfusion is indicated only when your blood levels are critically low- less than 5gm%. It is advised only for extremely needy - those who cannot recover with supplements and dietary changes.
It is best to start with iron supplements and diet rich in iron. Do get the levels checked again after a week and contact your doctor regarding this with latest blood reports.
