Question: Hi about 24 hours ago my 13 year old daughter had quite a bad fall she was being carried by a friend whom was running very fast down a hill towards a dam he feel and dropped her, she didnt put her arms down to break the fall she hit the ground with her face that hard she bounced and hit again, since than we has seen a dr because she is bruised and battered down the right side of her face were most of the impact was dealt, her right eye is completley swollen that it stays shut, her right ear is now blocked her nose is running she feels dizzy on occasion, and is complaining of pressure building in her head, she has had a constant head ache is now nauseous, says she feels hot and has had no sleep due to the pain she also is extremely sensitive to any touch from just below her right ear al the way to the top of her head she doesn't have any neck pain except down the left side of the neck you know that thing if you flexed your neck that tube/artery? Thing that sticks out is aching,i dont know if this is related but she know keeps needing(thinking) to urinate but sits and tries but nothing comes her head ache is getting worse over time normally she is very fit and healthy in 13 years has pretty much only seen a gp for immunisation! After attending our emergency and 8 hours after sitting in the waiting room i would think any head injury would be quite a concern but apparently not! He didnt (dr) want to expose her to radiation etc at such a young age as we dont know of the effects later on could be he said im pretty sure its not a fractured skull and im fairly certain its not a bleed because her eyes arnt black only swollen shut! It must just be muscular pain and gave some nurofen he than tried to look in her right ear but was unable due to her pain but said it definitely looked squashed or flaterned?? He than said he would run it by someone and came back an hour later my daughter was vomiting and still in a lot of pain he ordered something for the nausea and endone and decided she needed a limited facial ct ( thats what the report stats) he said basically a look from just below her right eyebrow to around the jaw,the ct confirmed a non-displaced anterior wall of maxillary sinus fracture and also some sinusitis? We were send home with a script for anti biotics and penadene forte, she is not improving and says her head feels dough like and its going to pop she cant eat because of the pain and was told to not blow her nose for 2 weeks and if she sneezes to do it through the mouth?? Should i get some other opinions if she has fractured her sinus could she have caused any other problems???

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query as well as the attached referral note and understand your concerns. I understand that there is an apparent flattening but you need not be concerned about it. The maxillary fracture is unlikely to cause further problems and should heal on its own. As of now taking steam inhalation should help in reducing the sinusitis. Taking steam inhalation can provide relief as it helps in opening up the openings of the sinuses that have been blocked by thickened mucus. Water in form of vapour will reach deep inside and will help in dilute the thickened mucus. The rules about the sneezing and coughing are not rigid but she should try to minimize the displacing action a forceful sneeze has. As of now continue the course of antibiotics.

Could not understand your point about the 'stretched tube/artery'. I would be glad if you clarify a bit further.

Feel free to seek further clarification.

Regards
