Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern. I would also like to thank you about that honest account; it’s nice to read things from a patients perspective and thank you for staying such a positive person.
In terms of medication since an anticonvulsant like Lyrica hasn’t worked the other class which could be tried would be antidepressants, the most effective of which for central post stroke pain is amitriptyline. So it could be tried in your case. There is also Gabapentin, another anticonvulsant, it could be tried, but since Lyrica wasn’t effective it is less likely to work.
In resistant cases where the pain is severe deep brain stimulation is used, where small electrodes are placed in your brain. However that is done only in some centers and for really intense pain.
I am afraid apart from these there isn’t much available for post stroke pain, many tried methods but none to have shown any significant results. But 70% of patients do improve with either anticonvulsants or Amitriptyline, hopefully that will be your case as well.
I remain at your disposal for other questions.
