Suggest Remedies For Productive Cough
Question: I am scheduled for total knee surgery Monday 2/29. I had a bad cold/cough since last week Tuesday 2/16. Saw a dr and taking antibiotic cefdinir and have 2 days left of antibiotic. Feeling good but still have a cough. No sinus. Mostly in chest. Is there an additional medication I could take to break up the congestion in chest? I do have prescription Allergy Relief D but looks like it is mostly for sinus and runny nose issues.

Brief Answer:
Take mucolytic and expectorant drugs.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Along with antibiotic, you should also take mucolytic and expectorant drugs.
These will dilute the mucus and make it easy to cough out.
Combination of mucolytic and expectorant drugs is easily available as syrup form.
You should start syrup containing ambroxol, guaphenesine, terbutalin.
N acetyl cysteine (NAC) is oral drug with mucolytic and expectorant property.
So you can start these drugs to remove mucus from the chest.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
