Question: I have gotten the blue light treatment for skin cancer and I am still burning a great deal, my face is red and I have been putting sunscreen on but it burns so bad that I was wondering if there was anything that I could apply that might cool things down. I have been using alo vera and cold wash cloths.

Hello and welcome

Your concern is appreciated

Blue light therapy or photodynamic therapy is used to treat precancerous and cancerous lesion of skin particularly of face and scalp. A chemical agent like topical 5- aminolevulinic acid or methyl aminolevulinate to the lesions its taken up ny abnormal skin and after 30- 2 hrs blue light expsoure is done for 17 mints approx.
After this you have to avoid sunlight and all other intens lights for 40-48 hrs.
Blue light is of low intensity it will not heat up the skin but the patient may ecperience tingling stingingbor burning sensation this only gets better at the end of the treatment burning can persiat upto 24hrs if the treatment.
Ipobrufen can be taken before treatment and fan can be used during treatment
U should always cover up your skin when going outside in sun
Use sun screen of SPF 15 and 30 for light skin people
apply it multiple times 20-30 times before goinf in sun
Wet clothes let through more UV then dry
The treatment is all prevention and protection of skin while burning can ne minimised by avoiding sun and intense lights as skin becomes more photosensitive ,it will persist with the treatment.

Hope it will help.
Thanks

Whenever I apply sunscreen it extremely burns. Is there anything that I can do to lessen the burning? I had the treatment 3 days ago and it only seems to worse. I have avoided sun.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Take these precautions.

Try to avoid sunscreen if there is injured or raw skin.
Dry the face to a fan (at mild speed) before going outside.
Don't go out with a wet sunscreen applied freshly on the face.
Another option would be to change the sunscreen.
The sunscreen can be combined with glutathione and vitamin c and then applied. It will also help in reducing the burning sensations.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
