Suggest Remedies For Severe Constipation And Acute Abdominal Pain
Question: My husband , 38 yr old white healthy ,has been having acute abdominal pain with severe constipation. 3 days ago I took him to the emergency room, they took an abdominal xray and confirmed that he was severely constipated. They prescribed magnisium citrite, ( clear liquid bottled drink)..he drank the bottle, then had diarrhea for a few hours. He continued to feel bloated, but the severe pain was relieved. His appetite has been much decreased from normal, and now just two days later his pain has returned. He also has been having problems maintaining an erection for the past few weeks, difficulty for the last month.
Symptoms: bloating, severe abdominal pain, intermittent severe constipation/ diarhea, loss of erection, decreased appetite. Any ideas, ? suggestions. We have tried increased fiber, stool softeners, suppositories

Brief Answer:
Thyroid tests should be done at first.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
As he is quite young, any cancerous issue seems hardly possible especially large intestine cancer.
His symptoms may be caused by a hypothyroidism. This is the first thing that needs to be checked.
Secondly, he may suffer from gastrointestinal infection due to lack of good intestinal bacteria. That is why, I suggest him to start probiotic intake.
Finally he should have colonoscopy done (of thyroid issues and infection will be ruled out) as inflammatory bowels disease can be the reason as well.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
