Suggest Remedies For Swollen And Painful Wound On The Ankle

Question: I was hit directly on the ankle bone by a flying rock while mowing 2 days ago. It didnt break the skin. (The interior ankle bone of my left foot.) The wound is swollen a little, toes are a lil fat when i curl them, and it seems that the toes are relunctant or slow to move. Most of swelling is underneath the bone down into my arch. It hurts tremendously when touching about a 4" radius of the bone. It has started to turn black. It hurts when walking on it occasionally. Sleeping is difficult, can't lay on it, cant stand a sheet on it. I tried to apply ice to it as soon as it occurred but I couldn't stand to lay even a towel on it. I haven't tried to treat it any other way.

I appreciate your concern

The ankle needs to be examined and if there is any marked swelling or restriction of movement then x rays with AP, lateral and mortise views should be done to look for a possible ankle fracture. Vascular patency can be determined by doing a Doppler ultrasound of the lower limb. Treatment would depend upon the diagnosis on imaging investigations.
