Suggest Remedies For Withdrawal Symptoms Of Mirtazapine?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: I stopped taking Mirtazapine 5 days ago, now I am having problems sleeping. I used to take them with 10 mg of ambien. The dr started me on nortriptyline instead of Mirtazapine for anxiety issues. Should I go back to Mirtazapine for sleep? I feel like my body has slept but my head has been light headed with the lack of sleep. I still take ambien, and still can't get a good nights sleep over the past 5 days since the medication change.

Brief Answer:
depends upon the dose

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question,
Mirtazapine can definitely help some people with sleep. Stopping it may cause some temporary worsening of your sleep.
Nortriptyline can also help with sleep but it may take a while to start working.
The danger with taking all three medications at the same time is that all three of them together may cause oversedation.
It really depends upon the doses of each drug.
It is best for you to let your doctor know what is going on. They will know your history and what they have planned. They may prefer to increase the nortriptyline instead of restarting the mirtazapine.
They may choose to put you back on the mirtazapine and then taper you off as they increase the nortriptyline.
I would not make any changes without checking with your doctor and finding out what plans they have for your treatment.
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
