Suggest Remedy And Treatment For Colovesical Fistula
Question: I have had a colovesical fistula for 6 months where about one third of each bowel movement fecal material
exits through my penis and some urine out my rectum. My prostate was successfully treated for cancer 28 years ago by radiation and seeding. I am a reasonably healthy male 91 years old. My urologist advises I am not a candidate for surgery.
I would like any help you can give me in managing my condition.

Brief Answer:
Suggested Laparoscopic intervention....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am sorry for the fastidious health problems you are in. I am also happy to know that you are a prostate cancer survivor.
Now, coming to your actual colon -vesical fistula problems, before running into final conclusions, I need to know if you have any other chronic illness.
At your age, open surgery is not advised. Alternatively, I would recommend laparoscopic correction of fistula. You can discuss this further with your doctor.
Antibiotics in long term use are advised treat and prevent Urinary tract infection secondary to fistula.
Hope it was of help!

I do not have other chronic illness.
Are there any clinical studies available of laparoscopic surgery on radiated tissue

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
Thank you for following up.
1. Every type of surgical intervention will be decided upon :
- evaluating the general wellbeing of the patient
- excluding severe chronic diseases
- check for local (abdominal) problems including adherations after radiation
2. Apart evaluating the health status of the patient, the experience of the surgeon is also important.
3. Clinical trials will give a hand in managing current health issues but will not give the final decision in your case as the above mentioned data are to be considered.
4. Some of them, can find at:
