Suggest Remedy For Abdominal Pain Caused By Prolonged Use Of Depo-Provera Shot

Question: My fiancée has been experiencing terrible pain in stomach, rib cage, back, etc. for at least two years. At age 14, her mom put her on depo birth control injections and she was on this for maybe 9 consecutive years which is beyond the 5 year XXXXXXX suggested. She has been taking expensive pain pills (hydrocodone and oxycontin) These are causing problems in addition to not curing the original problem. She needs to get off this dangerous addictive pain medicine as well as reverse what the birth control injections has done to her body. Please help us to get her on the road to recovery.

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have carefully gone through the query and understand your concerns. I doubt if the depo birth control injections have had a role to play, nevertheless, it needs to be investigated properly. I would suggest you to get the following blood investigations done on the 2nd-3rd day of her next cycle (if these investigations have not already been done at the mentioned part of her cycle):
* Blood for follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and estradiol (E2).
* Blood for thyroid profile (not related to timing of cycle).
* Blood for lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine phosphokinase (CPK) - which rise if there is tissue destruction (not related to timing of cycle).
Please upload the reports using the facility on the upper right of this page and I would be glad to help further.
Due to development of dependancy and tolerance, it might often be hard to get off pain medication like hydrocodone and oxycontin which are opioids. I would suggest you to get in touch with a deaddiction center as they can help her get of the medications.
The pain could be what is commonly referred to as fibromyalgia (algia=pain, fibro=fibrous tissue or connective tissue that forms structural elements of our body, myo=muscles. i.e. pain of fibrous and muscular tissues). In such a case psychotherapy might be helpful. Psychotherapy helps to gain better control over mind to be able to better control the physical stimulus of pain (thereby increasing the pain threshold).
Let me know if I could help further.
Regards
