Question: Hi Doctor,

I am facing a weird problem from last 3 months. The problem I face is I get a swelling near my anal area after passing stool. This swelling doesn't last long and disappears after an hour. Neither this swelling cause me any kind of pain but anyhow it feels uncomfortable.

I have not seen any blood passing through my stool. I have consulted a doctor who examined me and also performed colonoscopy or proctoscopy (Don't know what exactly this procedure is named but doctor inserted some tube like stuff to examine my anal area).

The doctor was of opinion that the problem with me is external hemorrhoid and no symptoms of internal hemorrhoid is there. So as far as I don't see blood while passing stool nothing is serious. He gave me some medicines to reduce constipation but nothing to reduce the swelling.

3 to 4 months have passed and I still face this problem every morning. Are there any medicine by which I can overcome this problem. I don't want to undergo any surgery or operation if its not that necessary.

Brief Answer:
Take haemorrhoids specific treatment

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

According to your history your condition is not serious. This right now don't need surgery. I suggest you to take haemorrhoid specific treatment like

- start doing sitz bath. Here you need to take a small tub and put slight warm water and put 3tsp betadine and sit for 20mins in squatting position for 3 times a day. Do this for 2 weeks. Usually swelling reduces. If so continue for 2 more weeks.

- apply local ointment containing zinc, calcium dobusalate and steroid 3 times a day after passing stools and sitz bath. Sitz bath and ointment reduce swelling and inflammation.

- in your diet take more of green vegetables and banana. This will improve stool formation and prevent constipation, because constipation is the cause of haemorrhoids.

If with above treatment swelling doesn't reduce then you may need surgery/procedures. But let surgery be last option as recurrence after surgery is common and in young age surgery not advised. There are various non surgical options. So I suggest you to do above treatment properly.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.
